Kali Reader — Terms of Use (EULA)
Free tier, PRO subscription, character packs, retention, refunds, and acceptable use.
These Terms of Use (the “Terms”) govern your use of the Kali ReaderiOS application and related backend service operated by KALI INDIE (the “Service”). By using the app or completing a purchase you agree to these Terms and to Apple's Standard EULA for Licensed Application End Users, incorporated by reference. Where they conflict, these Terms control for Service-specific matters.
1. The Service
Kali Reader extracts text from documents you upload (TXT, EPUB, PDF) and converts it into a single MP3 audiobook using automated text-to-speech. Output quality depends on source formatting, language, and file quality. PDFs must contain selectable text. The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.”
2. Account & free tier
- On first launch, an anonymous guest account is created and tied to a random identifier stored in the iOS Keychain. No sign-in is required.
- Each device receives a one-time free allowance of 50,000 characters. Character count is determined after text extraction from your file.
- The free allowance is granted once per device. Deleting your account and registering again on the same device does not restore or reset the free allowance.
- If you replace or reset your iPhone without backing up the Keychain identifier, we cannot link your previous account or quota to the new installation.
3. PRO subscription
- Plan: Kali Reader PRO Monthly, USD 7.99 / month.
- Introductory offer. Eligible new subscribers may receive a 3-day free trial through the App Store with 100,000 characters for that period. Apple shows exact terms on the purchase sheet.
- After trial. Paid subscribers receive 1,000,000 characters per billing period. Unused monthly characters do not roll over.
- Billing & renewal.If you start the trial, your Apple ID is charged USD 7.99 when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. The subscription renews automatically each month unless cancelled in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
- Cancellation stops future renewals; the current period (including an active trial) remains usable until expiry.
4. Character packs (consumables)
- One-time consumable purchases while PRO is active:
- Starter — 300,000 characters (USD 2.99)
- Standard — 600,000 characters (USD 4.99)
- Bonus characters from packs are consumed after your monthly PRO allowance in each billing logic and stack until used.
- Packs require an active PRO subscription at purchase time.
5. Server storage & retention
Completed audiobook MP3s and uploaded source files are kept on our servers for 3 days, then automatically deleted. The app displays remaining server retention time and supports downloading the MP3 to your device. You are responsible for saving copies you wish to keep beyond the retention window.
6. Refunds
Purchases are processed by Apple. Refunds are requested through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. See our Refund Policy.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Upload content you do not have the legal right to convert or distribute as audio.
- Use the Service to process material that infringes copyright, privacy, or other rights.
- Abuse rate limits, bypass billing controls, or disrupt the Service.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these rules. Termination for cause does not entitle you to a refund of unused subscription time.
8. Intellectual property
You retain rights to content you upload. KALI INDIE retains all rights in the app, brand, and backend. Generated audio is licensed to you for personal use subject to your rights in the underlying text.
9. Disclaimers & limitation of liability
Automated speech may mispronounce names or specialized terms. Review important material before relying on it for medical, legal, or safety-critical purposes.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, KALI INDIE's aggregate liability is limited to amounts you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential damages.
10. Account deletion
Delete your account anytime from Account → Delete account. Details: Account Deletion.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Mandatory consumer rights in your country of residence remain unaffected.
12. Changes
We may update these Terms when the Service changes. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
